Bin Knight is built by Mat and Blake. Here's who we are and why we're building it.

Blake had the original idea for Bin Knight, and co-founded it to build the app end to end, from the map and matching experience to the in-app chat that keeps neighbours connected without sharing phone numbers. He shares the day-to-day running of Bin Knight with Mat, and he's the one who turns "wouldn't it be good if the app could just..." into something that ships.

Mat co-founded Bin Knight after one too many collection days spent wedging an overflowing bin shut. He shares the day-to-day running of Bin Knight with Blake, alongside his other work building apps and websites through Kontrak. South Coast based, and firmly of the opinion that most neighbourhood problems have a neighbourly solution.
Why we're doing this
Dumped rubbish is a blight no community should have to suffer.
We're passionate about the environment, and overflowing or dumped waste is one of the most avoidable eyesores a street can have. It happens for a simple reason: someone's bin is full and there's nowhere for the extra rubbish to go, even though the neighbour three doors down has a bin that's barely half full on the same day.
Bin Knight exists because we think neighbours helping neighbours is a small, practical way to fix a piece of that. No new infrastructure, no council process: just spare capacity that already exists on your street, matched to the person who needs it, for the price of a friendly hello.
It's not going to fix waste on its own. But it's one less bin overflowing, one less pile of rubbish dumped because there was nowhere else for it to go, and, we hope, one more small moment of neighbours actually being neighbourly.
